Type 507

Manually operated 2/2 way metal valve with straight-through body for fluid or gaseous media.   Suitable for use at high operating temperatures.

The proven angle seat principle, the ergonomic design of the handwheel in temperature resistant plastic, and the use of stainless steel ensure reliable operation of the valve even at high temperatures.

The gland packing is manufactured as standard using chemically and thermally resistant Teflon fiber sealing rings.  For operating temperatures of over 180° C, and when maximum sterility is required, a stainless steel bellow is optionally available for this valve.

 Advantages

  • High flow capability due to angle seat
  • Suitable for extreme operating temperatures
  • Autoclave capability as standard
  • Ergonomically designed handwheel for secure grip
  • Reduced risk of injury at high operating temperatures due to handwheel made of temperature resistant plastic

Angle Seat & Globe Valves

If we consider the relative surface inside a globe valve which is subjected to pressure, it becomes clear that this functional principle is particularly suited for use with high operating pressures.  It is generally known that force is the result of pressure times surface area.  If the flow direction is changed in a globe valve, the force ratio is altered in the opposite way than is the case in the butterfly, ball or diaphragm valve.

This is important in as far as it can be used to influence an unfavorable closing and operating pressure force situation.  In the case of electromagnetically actuated globe valves, the flow direction must always be effected with the disc due to their low closing forces.  Sealing is effected with the aid of a wide variety of sealing materials, but a so-called "steel on steel" seal is also possible.  This involves both a steel globe and a steel plate, which are so precisely machined that a complete seal is achieved under the closing force of the actuation system.  The spindle is normally sealed using shaped plastic sealing rings which act, depending on their installation and pretension direction, as pressure, vacuum, or combination seals.

When a high level of temperature resistance is necessary, this type of plastic seal is replaced by a metal bellow.  This results in temperature resistance of at least +300° C.  Some manufacturers offer variations resistant to even higher temperatures.

However, insertion of a metal bellow serves to restrict the stroke.  When determining the volumetric flow (KV value), therefore, attention should always be paid to select the next highest nominal width.

In a globe valve, the medium is subjected to marked deflection.  This can be improved by using an angle seat globe.

Globe valves are found in applications ranging from the smallest nominal widths up to 150 mm (6") and even higher involving medium to high operating pressures and temperatures.   Fitted with a relatively "hard" seal and due to the rigorous medium guidance, globe valves are usually insensitive to soiling.  This functional principle, however, should be used with caution where abrasive media are being transported.

The control properties can be positively influenced by the relatively long stroke, the shape of the globe and also the use of a control taper instead of a disc to the extent that optimum control characteristics can be achieved.  The globe valve can therefore be designated the standard control valve.

Typical Applications:

  • Water treatment
  • Installation construction
  • Irrigation systems
  • Inert and corrosive liquids and gases

Why PVDF and PFA product lines?

Both are high-purity (HP) materials, both are fluoroplastics offering maximum resistance to aggressive media.  The difference between them lies in their stability properties.

PVDF-HP has proven ideally suitable, for example, in the transportation of demineralized water (DI water).

PFA-HP, in contrast, is particularly suited to the handling of high-concentration and/or high-purity acids such as those used as etching agents in microelectronic applications.

These are only some of the almost endless possibilities offered by these two materials.

The valve body construction, we differentiate within our PFA product line between three basic types:

  • The PFA-HP inliner with non-carbon fiber-reinforced PVDF casing;
  • The PFA-HP inliner with carbon fiber-reinforced PVDF casing.
  • The solid PFA-HP by as in the Cleanstar® range

High Purity PFA

The molecular share of fluorine in PFA is 76%.  The fact that the bonding energy of carbon to fluorine is greater than that to hydrogen (occurring in PVDF) explains not only the higher temperature strength, but also the greater resistance to chemicals.

While PVDF is used primarily as a valve body and sealing material, PFA can be applied not only for valve bodies but also as a sealing material in diaphragms.

CleanStar®, the new metal free UHP PFA Valve range fulfils tomorrows requirements today.

High Purity Plastic Diaphragm Valves

For more than 30 years GEMÜ has had extensive experience in the production of diaphragm valves for demanding applications.

Our PVDF and PFA High Purity valve range is developed and produced for:

  • Process Equipment
  • Ultra Pure Chemicals
  • Ultra Pure Water Treatment
  • Distribution Plants for microchip production.

Despite the breakneck speed of scientific and technical development in practically every sector, the implementation of successful scientific research in practical production engineering situations is often blocked by the problems and requirements encountered in high-tech series production.  An added difficulty is the diversity of statutory regulations.

Surface Finishes

Ever increasing purity requirements in the pharmaceutical and bio-technology industries require surfaces in contact with wet processes to have finishes that meet BPE standards.

GEMÜ provides the highest quality surface finishes in the industry. Multiple surface readings are taken on every valve to ensure the highest quality.

Electropolishing

GEMÜ’s electro-polishing is performed in a 12-station electro-polishing process which includes proper pre and post cleaning as well as passivation of all parts. The results of eletropolishing can not be achieved by no other method of polishing. You can achieve bright and shiny appearances by Mechanical polishing, but it may leave the surface layer distorted, highly stressed, and contaminated with grinding media.
